Why Professional Tree Trimming & Pruning Matters

Orlando’s subtropical climate doesn’t give trees a dormant season. Canopy growth continues year-round, and dense, unmanaged canopies build wind resistance with every cycle. When hurricane-force winds hit, a tree with 18 months of unmanaged growth carries far more load than a trimmed one in the same position. That excess load fails against fences, vehicles, and rooflines.

Disease accelerates in undertrimmed trees. Hypoxylon canker is a stress-related fungal disease that spreads through live oak populations under heat and water stress. Bacterial leaf scorch moves through trees already weakened by canopy crowding. A crew that recognizes these diseases while trimming stops the spread before it reaches adjacent trees on the property.

Ranger Tree Care is veteran-led and woman-owned, FEMA-contracted, and staffed by an ISA-certified arborist. Every trimming cut is evaluated for structural impact before it’s made. Fully insured including workers’ compensation, with documentation on every job.

Residential Tree Trimming & Pruning in Orlando

The live oaks near Lake Eola, the mature canopy in Thornton Park, and the palm-lined estates in Windermere and Dr. Phillips represent decades of tree growth. Homeowners in these neighborhoods trim before hurricane season because they’ve seen what an untrimmed canopy does in a storm. Homeowners who haven’t are managing the tree they inherited when they bought the house.

Ranger’s residential trimming service starts with a structural assessment before any cuts are made. The ISA-certified arborist on staff evaluates crown balance, deadwood load, and disease indicators. The trimming scope goes into the proposal with photos, so the homeowner approves exactly what will be cut before the crew starts.

Palm trimming on Dr. Phillips and Windermere properties is part of our residential scope. Over-trimming palms stresses the tree and reduces hurricane resistance. Ranger’s crew trims to the correct frond retention standard.

Ranger Tree Care did a fantastic job protecting my house from a tree that was weakened and rotting. Initially, I wanted to trim only a portion of the tree, but they pointed out that it was splitting and was reaching a point at which it would be dangerous during a storm. Following their recommendations, I decided to cut the tree entirely. Once it was cut, the internal rot showed itself, and it was clear that their recommendations were spot on. While their professionalism and expertise were greatly appreciated, one notable thing upon completion was that they did a fantastic job cleaning up, doing their best to leave everything the way it was before they arrived, minus the tree. Thank you, Kevin, Melanie, Stephanie, and your tree-cutting professionals!

I had a very good experience with Ranger Tree Care. Prompt response, detailed estimate with photos of work to be done received same-day, fair price and fast scheduling. Took down large dead tree. Crew arrived on time, worked as a team. Office staff was courteous and efficient. Impressive clean-up afterward; hardly any sign they'd been here. Took care not to damage lawn sprinklers. Tree limbs, trunk & debris hauled away as promised. Safety priority - insurance document included with estimate. Professional operation.

I live in WNC and Ranger Tree Care was part of the crew that came out to our house to remove debris from Hurricane Helene. Our job involved half a dozen root balls, all in precarious locations (near septic, well, and a large buried propane tank). I am very grateful for the amount of care and attention that went into the work they did. I'd encourage anyone who lives in their FL service area to support this veteran-owned business. As someone who has worked with 6 different tree services in the last 12 months, I would hire this crew in a heartbeat!

A crew of 4 professionals came to my house to remove a very tall bismark palm tree which was too close to my house. They came one day after I asked them to come. They quickly had the tree down and cut it into pieces and removed every last leaf. They swept my driveway clean and blew all dirt away. I couldn't be happier. They has the best price of the 4 companies I contacted. I told the owner I couldn't pay for 2 more weeks because that's when I get my social security check. They came anyway. Now that is top notch service. I highly, highly recommend them. Very polite and efficient.

We had a great experience with Ranger Tree Care, who provided tree trimming services for large oak and mango trees as well as large canary Island date palms on our property. The estimate was clear and detailed and the pricing competitive. They arrived on the day and time agreed to and were professional, courteous, and effective. Adam was on site himself, performing and supervising the others. It was very clear this is a customer-oriented company that is willing to go the extra mile to acheive complete customer satisfaction. When my wife was not totally pleased with the appearance of the canary palms, Adam spent considerable additional time to perform additional shaping to achieve her full satisfaction. They completely cleaned up the premises and hauled away all the debris. The final results of all their work was excellent. We will definitely use them again.

Commercial Tree Trimming & Pruning in Orlando

Office parks along Sand Lake Road, the hotel corridor on International Drive, and mixed-use properties near UCF and AdventHealth share a challenge: canopy trees growing over parking structures, walkways, and occupied buildings. On a commercial property, a branch failure is a liability event. Managed trimming cycles make it preventable.

Ranger offers commercial trimming contracts with scheduled maintenance cycles and Friday status updates. Our crews coordinate with property management teams on access timing and site protocols. No surprise shutdowns of parking areas or walkways on business-hours jobs.

Ranger’s FEMA-contract experience governs how we approach commercial scale: full compliance documentation, ANSI A300 and OSHA standards on every job, and a single point of contact from first estimate through completion. Property managers receive records they can file.

Learn more about us

Crown Thinning and Canopy Lifting

Crown thinning removes selected branches from within the canopy to reduce density and wind resistance without stripping the outer structure. The result is a canopy that moves with high-wind events rather than catching them. Topped trees lose their structural integrity and produce rapid, weak regrowth that creates worse hazards within two to three growing seasons.

Canopy lifting removes the lower branches of a tree to raise clearance below. On residential lots, lifting opens sight lines, improves airflow to lawns and understory plantings, and clears rooflines and gutters from branch contact. On commercial properties, lifting provides pedestrian and vehicle clearance without removing the canopy above.

Both approaches follow ANSI A300 pruning standards on every Ranger job.

Equipment for Tree Trimming & Pruning

Bucket trucks provide access to full canopy height without placing equipment weight on lawn surfaces or irrigation lines. Ground crews with ladders reach the bottom third of a canopy on a good day. Ranger’s bucket trucks operate at the full height where structural problems actually live.

Spike climbing damages cambium tissue at every contact point, leaving wounds that invite fungal infection and Hypoxylon canker entry. Ranger’s crew uses aerial lift equipment to avoid bark contact wherever structure permits. For large branch sections, proper rigging controls descent and keeps weight off structures below.

Ranger owns and operates this equipment. No subcontracted machines, no operators working on unfamiliar equipment.

Environmental Responsibility

Pruning cuts made at the wrong angle leave stubs that cannot seal, creating entry points for pathogens. Ranger’s crew cuts to the branch collar on every removal, letting the tree seal the cut naturally.

Bird nesting season in Central Florida runs through late spring and overlaps with pre-hurricane trimming demand. Ranger identifies active nests before canopy work begins and schedules affected sections around state and federal nesting requirements.

Ranger’s ISA-certified arborist identifies Hypoxylon canker and bacterial leaf scorch during trimming assessments. When either disease appears, affected material is removed and disposed of separately. For trees with advanced decline that trimming can’t reverse, tree removal in Orlando for oaks and pines that have declined beyond recovery keeps the disease from reaching adjacent trees on the property.

Our Process

Working with Ranger Tree Care is straightforward, organized, and built around your schedule:

Homeowners can rest easy, you’ll always know what’s happening next.

HOA & Permit Navigation

Master-planned communities in Celebration, Windermere, and Baldwin Park frequently specify canopy heights, clearance measurements, and tree species protections in their CC&Rs. HOA trimming approval may be required before any canopy reduction, and many communities require documentation of who performed the work and what standards were followed.

Certain tree species in Orange County carry canopy protection ordinances that limit reduction without a permit. Ranger identifies protected species before the job and handles any required permit applications and documentation for HOA records.

FAQs About Land Clearing

When is the best time to trim trees in Orlando before hurricane season?

April and May give you the best window. Trimming in spring removes accumulated deadwood and reduces canopy density before June 1. Most certified crews in Orlando fill their pre-season schedules from March through May, which means homeowners who schedule in January or February get better access to the right crews and dates.

Trimming focuses on aesthetics and clearance: removing overgrown branches that extend past a target boundary or create visual issues. Pruning focuses on the tree’s structural health: removing deadwood, correcting crossing branches, and improving the crown’s ability to withstand wind and disease. Most professional jobs include elements of both.

Yes, measurably. A thinned canopy moves with wind rather than catching it, which reduces force transferred to the root system. Removing deadwood eliminates the branches most likely to fail in the first 30 minutes of a storm. If a storm still produces a failure despite proper trimming, 24/7 emergency tree removal when storm damage creates an active hazard is available any hour.

Topping is not in Ranger’s scope. Our crew follows ANSI A300 pruning standards, which prohibit removal of more than 25% of living crown and require cuts to branch collars rather than stubs. The proposal you receive before work begins shows exactly what will be cut, with photos. Topping produces rapid, weak regrowth that creates worse hazards within two growing seasons.

Most residential canopy trees in Orlando benefit from a professional assessment every 12 to 18 months, with trimming as needed based on growth rate and structural condition. Fast-growing species like laurel oaks may need annual attention. Palms need annual frond removal. Arborist services in Orlando assess structural health and disease risk before pruning and can establish a maintenance schedule based on your specific trees.

A tree with deadwood over the roof is not a risk. It is a timed event. The only question is which storm season triggers it. Orlando’s hurricane season opens June 1, and the trimming crews with the right certifications fill their schedules in April and May.

Ranger trims for structure, not appearance. The ISA-certified arborist on staff evaluates your trees for the cuts that reduce wind load and disease risk, not just the cuts that make the canopy look neat from the street.
